      Item bequeathed in his father's will: "I give and bequeath unto my son William Lindsay ten pounds current money as it runs, and for him therewith to be content".

      Served in the war of the Revolution, as a Major in the Virginia Militia, under General Green. He received a severe wound at the battle of Guilford Court House, in May 1781. DAR No. 50390.

      His home in Fairfax County, was some 10 or 12 miles from "The Mount". His plantation consisted of 1,000 acres, and on one of the elevated portions of the property he erected his house, which was called "Laurel Hill". "Laurel Hill" was in what is now Lorton, Virginia. A Washington DC prison facility is now on at least part of the site.
