- PROVIDED BY EUNICE (MOTHER) DIARY
Diary entry for October 10, 1939: "Sent mother a card. Everything was over by 2 a.m.;Gaylen Samuel was born at 4:25 a.m. & weighs 7 1/2 lb.; an even easier birth than Laurice's; sorta think he resembles me."
Name:
- Gaylen (Sam) and Linda Margheim began square dancing in September of 1982 and never stopped. 35 years later, they still participated in square dance
activities. Sam and his wife Linda were inseparable. The list of square dance
organizations and activities could fill a book. He was active in local, state,
regional and national square dance organizations. When Gaylen passed away, he and Linda had been members for 13 years of the select National Executive
Committee that produces an annual National Square Dance Convention®,
often billed as the largest all volunteer convention of any type. In 2004, Gaylen and Linda were General Chairman for the National Square Dance Convention® presented at the National Western Complex with over 8500 attending dancers.
Gaylen was very involved with family and hardly a contact was ever made when he didn?t have to consider a child or grandchild activity schedule before he could commit to one of his own. Gaylen is survived by his son Scott and wife
Maryanne and daughter Stacy. Sam operated Aurora Precision Sharpening
Service having taken over the business from father, Lawrence and co-founder many years ago. Gaylen was also an active Home Inspector in recent years and was much sought after for inspection services. Gaylen lived with his wife, Linda, in
Strasburg, Colorado for the past 21 years.
Buried:
- Gaylen was memorialized with a celebration of life gathering at the Bennett, Colorado community center on June 2, 2018. Present were surviving brothers Laurice Meredith and wife Cari, Martin Daniel and wife Marilyn and sister Marcia Winkler.
